This is a 9 week long course where participants attend lectures from 17:30 to 19:30 once a week on a Monday. Dates to be finalised for 2024. Courses might be delivered through blended learning. Students are required to have basic computer skills and stable internet connection.
Overview
Disruption is now the norm post 沙巴体育官网_2024欧洲杯博彩app@, with technology playing an integral role in enabling law firms to deliver effective and efficient client service within an environment of unprecedent change and complexity. This virtual evolution is a significant leap forward for the legal sector, and one that needs to be fully understood and embraced.
This course will introduce law students and lawyers to the bouquet of technologies that are changing the ways in which legal practice operates. Technology is the gateway to the future, and we will walk you through this virtual doorway to deepen your understanding of innovation and secure your place as a lawyer of the future
Course Outcomes
At the end of the course, the participant should be able to:
- Recognise the challenges and opportunities of using technology for legal services.
- Identify useful technologies and tools for discovery and investigations.
- Understand how and when technologies support workflows and legal project management.
- Work through the laws and ethics of technology for day-to-day legal practice.
Course Content
The course consists of the following modules:
- Technology and Legal Services: The effect of emerging and current technologies on legal practices, and the provision of legal services in different types and sizes of firms in South Africa.
- Technology, Data, and Information: Technologies for data and information management used in legal work processes.
- Technology and Project Management: Workflows within practice management and the technology available to support these.
- Technology and the Law: Laws and ethical considerations that are applicable to the various technology lawyers use on a regular basis.
Target Audience
Law students and practicing lawyers.
Application Process
A relevant Bachelor of Laws or Bachelor of Commerce in Law or Bachelor of Arts in Law or equivalent qualification is a prerequisite for admission to the postgraduate certificate courses.
You will be required to submit a copy of your Bachelors Degree, academic record as well as a copy of your identity document or passport.
Kindly note that all foreign qualifications must be submitted with a SAQA Evaluation Letter
Additional Information
The following certificates can be obtained:
- Certificate of Competence: To obtain a certificate of competence, participants are required to attend and participate in 80% of the lectures and to achieve a minimum mark of 50% on the assessments as required in the course.
- Please note that a Certificate of Attendance is not available for this course
This postgraduate certificate course is accredited by the university in accordance with its statutory mandate. It does not lead to a qualification registered on the National Qualifications Framework.
