The Master of Laws by coursework and research report is offered in fields such as Environmental Law, Labour Law, Corporate Law, Human Rights Advocacy Law, Information and Communications Law, and Tax Law.

Curriculum


The LLM by Coursework & Research Report consists of a coursework component as well as a research component. To obtain the LLM, a student needs to take four LLM modules (two of which must be taken at core level), complete one attendance course in Research Methodology and produce one Research Report.

Entry Requirements


A bachelors degree with honours or an appropriate postgraduate diploma.

  • FULL academic transcript(s) for all post-matric studies (including marking key if marks are not expressed as percentages)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Letter of motivation, this letter should address:
    • Briefly why you want to do the programme
    • Whether you have any relevant other qualifications or work experience, especially legal research experience, and if so, the nature thereof
    • If you have not attained the minimum average for admission (70% for the LLM by Coursework and Research Report) you should explain why not.
    • If you are applying for the LLM by Coursework and Research Report and have an average mark of between 65% and 70%, you are strongly advised to provide evidence of your ability to perform legal research and produce writing of a high standard. Such evidence could, for instance, consist of a legal publication or a law essay written by you that received a high mark.

  • Applicants can monitor the progress of their applications via the Self Service Portal.
  • Selections for programmes that have a limited intake but attract a large number of applications may only finalise the application at the end of the application cycle.
