The WITS PhD Seminar 2021

- PGA

The Seminar is an annual cross-faculty competition for innovative Wits PhD students. This year's competition theme is 'resilience'.

The competition is based on a pre-selected concept or word that PhD students are asked to respond to from the strength and uniqueness of their own research and discipline. The competition is for students who want their research to speak to as many publics as possible. It is also an opportunity to display individual scholarly talent, intellectual adaptability, disciplinary flexibility and responsiveness in the face of challenging global topics. Therefore, the student does not need to be doing a PhD on the topic to qualify. The most important requirement is that the student should demonstrate how they could tweak their research, ‘rethink and relearn’ for the benefit of a range of literate public. This year, the Senate Graduate Studies Committee chose the word: RESILIENCE

This year the competition will be held on 30-31 August.

Abstract: Please send a topic and an abstract of not more than 200 words that describes your theory/approach and what you intend to present and argue. You need to clearly articulate what you consider to be novel in the way you approach or theorise RESILIENCE.

Deadline: for submission of topics and abstracts, 25 June 2021 by 18H00.
