SOA students impress in SAICA ITC

Students from the Wits School of Accountancy (SOA) have achieved excellent results in the 2022 SAICA ITC.

The School reported exceptional results in the January 2022 Initial Test of Competence (ITC) professional examination set by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). 

The SAICA ITC examination is the first of two professional exams administered by SAICA, which is written after the completion of an accredited Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy programme and assesses core technical competence.

The results of the January 2022 ITC examination were released on Friday 25 March 2022.

Overall performance of the SOA:
  • First time pass rate of 91% (National pass rate is 78%)
  • Overall pass rate of 88% (National pass rate is 59%) Top 10 results: Delivered the only candidate of colour in the Top 10 in the country (Priyanka Padayachee placed 8th in the Top 10)
Top 10 results:
  • Delivered the only candidate of colour in the Top 10 in the country (Priyanka Padayachee placed 8th in the Top 10)
Committed to transformation:
  • The SOA is a key contributor to the transformation of the profession with an overall African pass rate of 83% (almost double the national African pass rate of 42%).

Professor Imraan Valodia, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management paid tribute to the School: "These pass rates are as a result of the hard work and dedication the staff of SOA continue to put into the School, which continues to fly the flag of excellence for Wits. Congratulations to all our colleagues in the SOA, and to the students who worked so hard to achieve these excellent results."
