Basic Research Skills

Finding reasons why research is important seems like a no brainer.

In order to research content for preparing for an interpreting assignment as well as doing research for academic purposes, participants will be exposed to basic research principles, academic writing and the risks associated with plagiarism. This course is designed to assist students with their academic writing abilities and specifically addresses topics relating to interpreting.

This course is facilitated by Wits Plus.

Course Fee

The course costs R9 610.

Classes are subject to a minimum of 8 students. We reserve the right not to run a particular course in an intake if there is insufficient demand. 

Duration

The course is part-time and runs for 14 weeks (40 hours)

Qualification

This is not a certification course. This course is presented to provide ancilliary skills for students studying the Diploma in Legal Interpreting.

Programme Overview

This short course aims to develop students’ skills in gathering and processing of information. It will develop their critical reading and research skills. It will prepare them for doing assignments and writing reports at the required level.

Curriculum

This course is not credit bearing towards any qualification, but is highly advised for students wishing to further their studies after the Diploma in Legal Interpreting.

Entry Requirements

Please ensure you meet the following requirements when applying for the course: 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (approved by SAQA).
  • Fluent English.
  • Basic computer literacy.
Career Opportunities

This course provides learners with the knowledge required to conduct research pertaining to legal interpreting.  Learners will learn how to identify relevant and current sources of information.  Learners will also learn how to avoid plagiarism.  These skills are necessary for successfully completeing the Diploma in Legal Interpreting, as well as further studies in interpreting.
