Out and about in Joburg

-

Come to South Africa and discover the most rewarding full-time English course at Wits Language School.

Learning English in South Africa is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the language and learn more about the local culture. Wits Language School is located in the heart of Johannesburg, an exciting and busy cosmopolitan city with lots to do and lots to see. There is something fun for everyone and you will never get bored.

Food and restaurants

Because South Africa is a rainbow nation, you can find food from all over the world in Joburg including Greek, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican and Thai dishes. We recommend going to the Neighbourgoods Market in Juta Street on a Saturday to taste all the delicious cuisines the city has to offer. 44 Stanley, just five minutes away from the language school, has a fantastic mix of restaurants and shops - the perfect place to spend your afternoon.

Art and culture

If you are an art lover, check out the Goodman Gallery down the road from the Johannesburg Zoo. You can also pick up a paintbrush at Art Jamming in Melrose Arch if you want to be creative. Arts on Main in Maboneng is a great spot to find local art, jewelery and other crafts.

Museums and history

If you would like to learn more about South Africa’s rich history, you can visit Nelson Mandela House and The Hector Pieterson Museum in Soweto - don’t forget to go to Sakhumzi’s for some traditional South African food while you are there! Constitution Hill in Braamfontein will teach you more about South Africa’s journey to democracy.

Adventure and the outdoors

You can still experience the outdoors in a big city like Joburg. Swing from the trees at Acrobranch, jump on a rollercoaster at Gold Reef City and have a picnic in the park at Zoo Lake or Emmerentia.

Nightlife

When the sun goes down and you want to enjoy a drink or go dancing, head to The Living Room or Shakers Cocktail Bar in Maboneng. You are also guaranteed to have a great time at Hell’s Kitchen and Xai Xai in Melville.
