Undergraduate study Every year the School hosts around 300 undergraduate students from a range of university faculties. There are three years of study in Geography and Archaeology. The courses are wide-ranging, exciting and relevant to contemporary issues in South Africa and the world.

Honours study The School has an excellent reputation both locally and internationally as one of the leaders in African scholarship on issues such as sustainability, climate change, urban social and environmental justice, tourism and development.

Postgraduate study The School has a strong commitment to postgraduate students. There are over one hundred postgraduate students currently enrolled in our Honours, Masters and PhD programmes.

Research We lead in rock art studies, Paleoarchaeology, the Stone Age, pre-colonial farming and herding societies and the formation of modern cultural identities in the last five hundred years.
Contacts & Staff The School is one of the most productive research units at Wits. Staff members contribute regularly to local and international publications and are members of the editorial boards of many prestigious journals.
