Contribution to Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, are an urgent call for action by all countries. Although the SDGs aren’t focused on higher education Wits University has heeded the call to action and actively contributes to a number of SDGs.

Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3)

Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being at all ages is essential to sustainable development.

Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8)

Decent work in safe and stable conditions is a vital component of helping people out of poverty, with the related aspects of reducing hunger and increasing health.

Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10)

Disadvantaged groups are more likely to be unable to take advantage of progress made by a nation. It is therefore important to ensure the reduction of inequalities for the SDGs to be met.

Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11)
Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17)

Sustainable development is the responsibility of every part of society, across the world. This can only be done through partnership between institutions, governments, companies, NGOs, and people.
